In 2016 the name was changed from Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park (known as DuBioTech) to Dubai Science Park in order to represent the merging of the Dubai government's energy and environment sector with its pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector.
Dubai Science Park was launched in 2005 as a business park geared towards the science, medical and pharmaceutical sector. It covers an area of 300 hectares and is operated by the government-owned TECOM Group.
The vision for the park, as articulated by the Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, was to create "an incubator for researchers and scientists and a centre for production, creativity and development... I want the Dubai Biotechnology Initiative to be a centre for civilization and science in the UAE and to benefit the wider world."
The Dubai Science Park management were responsible for phase one of the development comprising the flagship HQ twin office towers, warehousing facilities, and the Dubai Science Park Lab Complex. The rest of the land is earmarked for development by private partnerships.
